List One Thing You Are Thankful For

I woke up today thinking about the things that I am thankful for. There are a lot of Thankful Thursday type posts going on in the blogosphere today and normally my list runs towards things such as a warm house, food to eat and family. Of course I am extremely grateful for those things but today I am thinking about things that we usually take for granted and I hope I never do so again!

  • I am thankful that I have a kidney in my body that removes toxins from my body, balances the fluid in my body, helps regulate my blood pressure, produces a form of Vitamin D that promotes healthy bones and that controls the production of red blood cells.  (Did you know the kidneys filter and return to the bloodstream about 200 quarts of fluid every 24 hours?).
  • I am thankful that I have energy to manage the tasks of everyday living.  I can go to the grocery store, school my boys, prepare a dinner, do laundry and a lot more things that used to be monumental to me. Oh, I don't want to take that for granted again!
  • I am thankful that my legs work and whether or not I have, I can still walk where I need to go.  (I'm MUCH better, btw)
  • I am thankful that I can see!  How sad it would be not to be able to take in this beautiful fall scenery or the smiles of my boys.  Yes, I'm thankful for my eyes!
I am trying to look at things in a whole new light.  What things are you thankful for today?  Things that you might not have thought about before?

Early Morning

I love getting up early. There is just something wonderful about being awake when there is absolutely no sound. So quiet that the silence is loud in your ears.

Then I hear the sound of little boy giggles. I think I like that even more.

Glimpses Of Our Weekend

This weekend we traveled to Atlanta to visit members of Dick's family.  We visited his mom, Fernbank Museum, had fun at a very cool park and enjoyed a very delish meal at Macaroni Grill.  We packed as much fun as we can in two days.

Sometimes It's The Big Things

One day in early March BK (before new kidney), I was sitting in a reclining lawn chair on the deck enjoying the sunshine.  The chair was next to the railing and I used that to help myself up.  I was surprised to find out that I almost didn't have the strength in my legs to get myself up!  My health was failing on many levels.

Today I took the boys outside for reading time.  Fall is in the air and it was the perfect time to enjoy the weather.  As I sat reading, I began to recall that day in March.  I was sitting in the same lawn chair by the same railing.  The leg pain from the rejection meds got me to wondering if I would be able to stand up when it came time to come inside.

Obviously I made it inside! ::grins::  I stood up easily with the minimum of pain.  I'm thankful for the small blessings AND the big ones.

My 8 Year Miracle

I am so thankful for the blessings and, indeed, the miracles that he has done in my life.  Eight years ago He stepped in and rescued me and my newborn baby Jonathan.  It was an incredibly wild and blessing-filled day.

The birth story is long and sometimes scary and I won't go into all of that.  I'll sum it all up:  I pushed for 2½ hours but Jonathan wasn't moving down but his heart rate was and a C-section was decided.  While waiting on a OR, I lost a lot of blood and was rushed down the hall.  Jonathan was delivered gray-looking and hardly breathing and they intubated him.  Meanwhile, my epidural wore off toward the end of the c-section and I about come off the table trying to stop the pain. They knocked me out and I woke up in recovery after having to receive 2 units of blood.  Jonathan was absolutely fine after about 45 minutes and had no other problems.  He was a healthy weight of 8lbs, 10oz and 22½ inches long - according to his Meme, those are Dick's exact birth measurements.

I had a fabulous doctor and to this day I still insist that he is my favorite doctor!  Thanks Dr. Richmond.

What Does "Bedky" Mean?

Sometimes around the world wide web you will see me referred to as "Bedky" by friends of mine on Facebook and Twitter.  How did that get started?  I'll tell you!

Six years ago I was asked to join an email list of 7 other women (or so) that called themselves "Women At Home" or "WAH".  It was simply a group of friends chatting everyday, praying for and supporting each other; being silly, serious and everything in between.

When you are email chatting daily, typos do occur and Bedky was one of those typos.  As things often go with our group, Bedky became an intentional nickname and every time I see it, I smile.

So, that is why I am called "Bedky".  :)
